"...Fando and Lis is the story of a corrupt, innocent and sadomasochistic mad love, between a young couple who begin a journey, searching for the magical city of Tar. During their search for Tar they encounter aberrant, incomprehensible situations and meet various exuberant characters.Fando and Lis is the first project of Grupo Atroz, which combines the work of playwright Fernando Arrabal, with supplementary adaptations of Alejandro Jodorowsky’s film with the same name, made in 1968. Why show Fando and Lis in Chicago? The need to show this play in Chicago is essential for several reasons, and one of the most important is the content within the play. Fando and Lis arouse the unconscious in an imaginative way, and the belief of perfect love showing that it can also be clever or disturbing. This is something the Chicago audiences, the Latino community and non-Latino, have not been exposed to: a more contemporary Spanish literature. Fando and Lis hope to change perspective and leave behind the clichés of Latino theater in the United States of America.What is Grupo Atroz ? Grupo Atroz is formed by Elizabeth Colín Alejandro Jiménez and Felipe Loza. We are three fucking awesome Mexicans with different interests, but share the same passion for theater. We decided to form a performance art group and unite our skill. Our goal is to offer an avant-garde theater in Spanish and perhaps English subtitles, for those who do not speak this wonderful language. Grupo Atroz is non-profit; we do theatre for the sake of it. ...¿Por que montar Fando y Lis en Chicago?La necesidad de montar esta obra en Chicago es fundamental por varias razones, y una de las más importantes es por el contenido de la misma. Fando y Lis despierta el inconsciente de una manera imaginativa, y la creencia del amor perfecto, que también puede ser ocurrente o perturbante. Para exponer a la comunidad latina y no latina en la literatura contemporánea, algo que el público de Chicago no se ha expuesto lo suficiente, Fando y Lis espera cambiar la perspectiva y dejar atrás los clichés del teatro latino en los Estados Unidos de América.¿Que es Grupo Atroz?Grupo Atroz es Elizabeth Colín, Alejandro Jiménez y Felipe Loza. Somos tres jóvenes con diferentes intereses, pero compartimos el mismo amor por el teatro. Decidimos unir nuestras habilidades para comenzar un grupo que brinde teatro avant-garde en español con subtítulos en Ingles, para aquellos que no hablan esa maravillosa lengua.
